Like-a-Latte has announced that it will temporarily close its doors from October 19, 2026, until further notice, citing economic pressures, declining customer sales and internal challenges.

In a notice to staff dated October 18, management said the closure would allow it to assess the future direction of the business.

“It is with a heavy heart that we formally notify you of Management’s decision to close Like-a-Latte,” the notice stated.

Management attributed the decision to ongoing economic conditions alongside internal difficulties, including staff performance and a decline in sales, which it said had significantly affected operations.

The notice described the closure as a difficult decision after years of work and personal investment in building the business.

“We have invested not only financially but also emotionally in building this business from the ground up, with the hope that it would continue to grow and provide opportunities for everyone involved,” management said.

Affected employees will receive two weeks’ pay in lieu of notice and be placed on temporary lay-off until further notice, according to the document.

Management said it remained committed to handling its responsibilities to employees fairly and in accordance with employment laws.

During the closure, the business will review its financial position and economic conditions before determining its next steps. Although the temporary shutdown has been confirmed, management said no final decision had been made about Like-a-Latte’s long-term future.

The notice also stated that, should the closure extend beyond three months, management was committed to meeting its lawful obligations to staff.

Employees were promised further updates once a definitive decision is reached.

“Please know that this decision has not been made without considerable thought and consideration for our staff,” management said, acknowledging the uncertainty employees may face.

No reopening date was provided.

I can tell you that the wait staff always asking loudly "WOULD YOU LIKE TO LEAVE A TIP?" as you're about to pay, turned me off from going there regularly any more. Tipping is discretionary and should also be discreetly done. Staff shouldn't be hollering for a tip the way that beggars cry "Alms for the poor!" and management shouldn't have been encouraging it. It's so crass and disgusting.

I am a regular customer and I have never encountered this behaviour from the staff in the manner you have described. If you had felt strongly about something the correct course of action would have been to address it with management when it occurred … and not wait until the establishment is temporarily closing as your comment is both unhelpful to everyone and could also be considered “crass” given livelihoods are being impacted. I am sending positive vibes in the hope matters can be resolved to the benefit of all .. staff and management.

the sad reality of doing business in an economic space where inflation is rising and the prolific amount of restaurants etc makes it difficult for most to survive.
