Karim Edwards, the man accused of causing a fatal traffic collision on Friars Hill Road that claimed the life of medical student Kenneth Mathew and left another person seriously injured, will now stand trial on December 8 following another postponement in the case.

The trial, which had been scheduled to begin last week, was delayed because another matter was still being heard before the court. The new date was confirmed during court proceedings yesterday.

Edwards faces two charges, causing death by reckless driving and reckless driving, stemming from the October 23, 2022 collision.

He pleaded not guilty to both charges in February.

The crash resulted in the death of Mathew, a medical student who succumbed to severe brain injuries more than a week after the incident.

Another victim, Priyanjana Das, survived the collision but suffered devastating injuries that permanently altered her life.

Das underwent the amputation of her right arm and sustained multiple fractures to her left arm and pelvis.

The latest postponement means the case will remain unresolved more than four years after the collision.

Edwards is being represented by attorney Wendel Alexander.

His trial is now scheduled to commence on December 8.
