Residents Inside CHOGM Security Zone Warned About Temporary Re-entry Restrictions
Police say people may leave their homes during the opening ceremony restrictions but could face difficulty returning before controls are lifted.
Residents living within the security perimeter for the CHOGM opening ceremony have been advised to plan their movements carefully.
Superintendent Rodney Ellis told a public town hall that residents would not be prevented from leaving their premises, but people without the required accreditation could be unable to return through security checkpoints while restrictions remain in effect.
The issue prompted a Church Street resident to seek clarification about how long he might be unable to access his home.
In response, officials described the anticipated restriction as lasting approximately two hours on Tuesday, November 3, with access expected to reopen by midday.
The exchange highlighted the practical implications of the security arrangements for people living and operating businesses near the National Performing Arts Center.
Police said pedestrian access, as well as vehicle movements, would be controlled within the designated zone.
