Canada, UK and Regional Partners Supporting CHOGM Security
Greene says international assistance will supplement local forces as Antigua and Barbuda prepares to host Commonwealth delegations.
Antigua and Barbuda is receiving international security assistance for CHOGM, Foreign Affairs Minister E.P. Chet Greene has said.
Speaking at a public town hall, Greene identified Canada, the United Kingdom, Jamaica and the Regional Security System among the partners supporting preparations.
He said the assistance would supplement local personnel, recognising the human resource limitations of a small country hosting a major international gathering.
Greene also acknowledged public concern about recent crime and violence, saying additional security measures were being taken to protect visitors and residents.
He expressed hope that the experience and capabilities developed for CHOGM would contribute to public safety beyond the conference.
Local police and defence personnel have been involved in planning, training and exercises ahead of the November meeting.
