Police Assure Travellers Airport Will Remain Accessible During CHOGM
Traffic checkpoints near the Business Forum will guide vehicles rather than prevent passengers from reaching the terminal.
Travellers will continue to have access to V.C. Bird International Airport during CHOGM, police have assured the public.
Superintendent Elson Quammie said traffic controls near the Coolidge Cricket Grounds, where the Commonwealth Business Forum will take place, would not amount to an airport closure.
Officers will be stationed at control points to provide directions and assist motorists travelling through the area.
Quammie said cones, signs and designated traffic lanes would help manage vehicles entering and leaving the airport.
He also pointed to earlier exercises used to test the traffic arrangements, saying access had been maintained while security operations were conducted.
The clarification followed concerns about whether conference restrictions would affect ordinary passengers.
Police appealed to drivers to cooperate with officers and follow the temporary traffic arrangements.
