More than three years after a crash on All Saints Road claimed the life of 18-year-old Keane Gregoire, the woman accused of causing his death is set to stand trial.
La-Shanti Cooper’s trial is scheduled to begin on March 1, 2027, following several delays. She appeared in the High Court on Monday and has pleaded not guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.
Gregoire, 18, of Nut Grove, was a student at the Antigua & Barbuda Institute of Continuing Education.
Police reports said he was a passenger in a Toyota BB travelling near the John I. Martin Race Track on May 18, 2023, when the vehicle crashed.
Cooper, who was 19 at the time, was allegedly driving at high speed when she lost control. Police said the car skidded off the road, struck a column and was thrown across to the opposite side.
Gregoire suffered multiple injuries and was taken to hospital, where he died the following day.
Cooper reportedly denied being the driver immediately after the crash, claiming that the person behind the wheel had fled the scene. She was later charged following a police investigation.
She entered her not guilty plea in June.
