Antigua and Barbuda’s push to strengthen its aviation infrastructure and expand international connectivity has received renewed attention following discussions between Antigua and Barbuda Senior Advisor Vicki Ting and the leadership of the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority (ABAA).
Ting, who serves as Antigua and Barbuda Senior Advisor at the U.S. Embassy in Bridgetown, met with ABAA Chief Executive Officer Kurt Menal and members of his management team at V.C. Bird International Airport to discuss airport capacity, infrastructure development and the wider economic importance of aviation.

The engagement also included a tour of the airport facilities, providing an opportunity to examine the infrastructure supporting the country's international air connections and discuss areas of mutual interest.
The meeting comes as the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority continues to explore opportunities to improve connectivity and strengthen the country's aviation infrastructure, recognising the importance of international cooperation in supporting economic development.

In welcoming the engagement, the ABAA highlighted the significance of building partnerships with international stakeholders, particularly for small island nations that depend heavily on air transportation.
"These collaborations are crucial for a small nation in helping to drive tourism, trade and investment," the Authority stated.
The U.S. Embassy Bridgetown also emphasised the broader economic benefits of stronger aviation infrastructure, noting that improved air connectivity can attract additional visitors, facilitate trade and encourage investment across the Eastern Caribbean.

The Embassy further highlighted that aviation development can create new opportunities for American businesses while strengthening economic relationships between the United States and countries throughout the region.
For Antigua and Barbuda, the discussions are particularly significant given the country's reliance on tourism and international air travel as major contributors to economic activity.
V.C. Bird International Airport serves as the nation's principal international gateway, connecting Antigua and Barbuda with major markets in North America, Europe and the wider Caribbean.
