Cabinet Condemns Creekside Shooting That Claimed The Lives of Two Rastafarians

Cabinet has condemned a shooting in the Rastafarian community at Creekside that left two people dead, expressing concern about illegal firearms and their impact on public safety.

During its October 21 meeting, Cabinet discussed the incident and extended condolences to the families, friends and loved ones of those killed.

The Government said the deaths had brought grief to the bereaved families and the wider community, and encouraged residents to keep those affected in their thoughts.

Cabinet urged anyone with credible information about the shooting to come forward and cooperate with law enforcement.

According to the Cabinet report, public assistance could help police identify and apprehend those responsible and bring them before the courts.

The report did not identify the deceased or provide details about a suspected motive, arrests or the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Cabinet expressed concern about the unlawful possession and use of firearms, describing gun violence as a threat to lives, community stability and public safety.

It reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda and other law enforcement agencies in efforts to combat crime and remove illegal firearms from circulation.

Cabinet also appealed to residents to reject violence as a means of resolving disputes and to report criminal activity.

The Government said preventing further loss of life requires cooperation between communities and law enforcement, alongside respect for human life and the rule of law.
