Travellers heading to V.C. Bird International Airport next week could face significant traffic delays and changes to parking arrangements as Antigua and Barbuda prepares to welcome delegates and other visitors for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

The Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority (ABAA) has announced temporary traffic and parking measures that will take effect from Sunday, November 1, through Saturday, November 7, 2026, as part of arrangements to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of passengers and other airport users during the international gathering.

The Authority has identified November 2 to 4 as the period likely to experience the greatest disruption, particularly between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. each day.

Those dates coincide with the CHOGM Business Forum, which will be held at the Sticky Wicket, adding to anticipated traffic activity in and around the airport compound.

With the possibility of congestion during peak periods, the Airport Authority is encouraging passengers to plan their journeys carefully and allow additional travel time to avoid unnecessary delays.

Motorists and other airport users are also being reminded that temporary traffic signs and parking restrictions must be observed throughout the period.

Police officers will be assisting with traffic and parking management, and members of the public are being asked to follow their instructions to ensure the orderly movement of vehicles.

The Authority has further advised that parking will be permitted only in designated areas, with motorists expected to comply with any temporary restrictions introduced during the week.

Special arrangements are also available for passengers with disabilities or other accessibility needs.

Those requiring assistance may contact the Airport Information Desk at (268) 484-1322, 484-1425 or 484-1426.

Passengers seeking additional information may also visit the Information Desks located on the lower concourse of Terminal A.

The temporary measures form part of wider preparations surrounding CHOGM, as Antigua and Barbuda gets ready to host an important international gathering involving Commonwealth representatives and other participants.

While the adjustments may create some inconvenience for regular airport users, the Authority says they are necessary to maintain safety and support efficient airport operations during the busy period.

In its advisory, the ABAA expressed appreciation for the public's patience and cooperation, encouraging travellers and other airport users to work closely with airport personnel.

The Authority is urging passengers to remain mindful of the changes, particularly during the three-day period of anticipated heavy traffic, and to make the necessary adjustments to their travel plans.

The temporary arrangements are scheduled to remain in effect until Saturday, November 7, 2026.
