A seemingly harmless offer of a taxi ride turned into a frightening ordeal for a Hodges Bay man who was allegedly lured into a robbery on South Street late Tuesday night.
The incident reportedly unfolded around 11 p.m. on October 27, as the victim was making his way from a casino towards the West Bus Station.
According to reports, the man was approached by an individual dressed in dark clothing who asked whether he needed a taxi.
What initially appeared to be an ordinary encounter quickly took a sinister turn when the individual allegedly directed him onto a by-road off South Street, where a second man was waiting.
The second suspect reportedly confronted the victim, pointed what appeared to be a black firearm at him and demanded that he surrender his belongings.
Faced with the apparent threat, the victim handed over his wallet, which contained his Social Security card, along with his mobile phone and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The second suspect was described as slim, approximately five feet 11 inches tall, and wearing a red shirt, long blue jeans and a mask concealing his face.
Both men reportedly fled the scene in an easterly direction following the robbery.
A subsequent search of the surrounding area for suspicious individuals proved unsuccessful, with neither suspect located.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about personal safety, particularly for pedestrians travelling through the city during late-night hours.
