Foreign Affairs Minister E.P. Chet Greene has paid tribute to more than 600 volunteers supporting CHOGM 2026, saying their service reflects the national effort behind Antigua and Barbuda’s hosting of the summit.

Speaking at the Commonwealth welcome reception at Government House on Saturday evening, Greene thanked volunteers for giving their time, energy and commitment to the event.

“They are the true face of hospitality,” he said, describing them as the first smiles delegates encounter, the helping hands that assist them and the quiet force behind smooth summit operations.

Greene said the volunteers’ contribution forms part of a wider mobilisation involving government ministries, security personnel, faith leaders, schoolchildren, artists and entrepreneurs.

He said hosting an event of this magnitude required people across the country to work towards a common purpose.

As Antigua and Barbuda welcomed the Commonwealth during its 45th independence anniversary celebrations, Greene said its size did not diminish the significance of its contribution.

He described the summit’s theme, “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth,” as a call to action.

The minister identified climate vulnerability and the need for sustainable trade among the shared challenges facing member states, while expressing confidence in their ability to respond through cooperation.

Welcoming delegates as family, Greene encouraged them to experience the country’s beaches, hospitality and community spirit.

He urged participants to ensure that their deliberations are bold, fruitful and worthy of the people they represent.
