Greene: CHOGM Must Deliver Progress People Can See in Their Communities
Foreign Affairs Minister urges Commonwealth leaders to keep citizens at the centre of their decisions.
Foreign Affairs Minister E.P. Chet Greene says the success of CHOGM 2026 must be reflected in tangible progress in the lives of Commonwealth citizens.
Addressing the opening ceremony in St. John’s, Greene urged delegates to ensure their discussions produced practical cooperation that responded to people’s needs.
“The outcomes of this meeting will matter most when they lead to tangible progress in our communities and our countries,” he said.
Greene explained that the summit’s theme, “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth,” placed a responsibility on leaders to translate shared values and ambitions into action.
He encouraged participants to listen carefully to one another and pursue ambitious partnerships while keeping Commonwealth citizens at the centre of their work.
Although member countries faced different circumstances, Greene said they shared important aspirations, including stronger economies, safe and resilient communities, and opportunities for young people.
He described the gathering as a chance to renew relationships and make cooperation more focused, practical and responsive.
Greene welcomed visiting delegations on behalf of Antigua and Barbuda and expressed hope for productive discussions and meaningful cooperation.
