The annual Cardiac Symposium in Antigua and Barbuda, organized by the Heart & Stroke Foundation, is scheduled for February 16. Sagicor returns as a sponsor for the third consecutive year.
This year’s theme, “Navigating Modern Health: Technology, Mental Well-being, Stroke & Cardiac Care,” will delve into the role of technology and mental health in the management of heart disease and strokes.
Among the speakers are Dr. Gillian Gordon-Perue, who will cover Acute Stroke Management, along with various experts from Jamaica, Costa Rica, and Antigua and Barbuda.
Topics will include Artificial Intelligence in Stroke Care, the effects of cannabis use on heart health, and the impact of chronic stress, anxiety, and depression on cardiac well-being.
Marisia James, Assistant Vice President for Eastern Caribbean Operations and Branch Manager for Sagicor Life (Eastern Caribbean) Inc. in Antigua, highlighted the importance of the sponsorship, stating, “Our ongoing support signifies Sagicor’s dedication to educating Caribbean communities about non-communicable diseases, particularly regarding stroke and cardiac issues, which critically affect health”
Dr. Georgette Meade, Consultant Cardiologist and President of the Heart & Stroke Foundation, expressed her appreciation for Sagicor’s continuous support: “Their sponsorship has played a crucial role in helping us promote heart health and prevent strokes in our community.
This year, we are hosting a hybrid symposium to reach an even wider audience beyond Antigua, across the Caribbean and beyond, and Sagicor’s support enables us to pursue this goal.”
Sagicor’s sponsorship of the Annual Cardiac Symposium is a key highlight in a month that globally recognizes Heart Month. This year, Sagicor has also initiated a digital campaign aimed at raising awareness and educating the public.
Additionally, they will implement several educational initiatives for their teams across the Caribbean. The campaign encourages individuals to set health goals and underscores the significance of heart care.
