Alexta Francis

Acting Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason has rescheduled the court date for the individual charged with the murder of former St. Peter MP Asot Michael.

Alexta Francis, aged twenty-six, appeared in St. John’s Magistrates’ Court this morning for the second time since his apprehension.

During the proceedings, the prosecution sought an adjournment, indicating that the case file remained with the investigator.

This disclosure was met with discontent from Francis’ attorney, Leon Symister, who criticized the police for what he termed “the fastest arrest in history,” yet lamented the sluggish pace of case preparation.

According to police reports, Michael, aged 54, was discovered fatally stabbed in his residence in Dry Hill on November 5 of the previous year.

Just three days later, authorities apprehended Francis and promptly charged him with murder.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court again on May 29 for his next committal hearing.
