Kelvin “Shugy,” Simon who won the St. Mary’s South by-election for the United Progressive Party (UPP) on October 24, will be sworn in as the representative of the constituency tomorrow, November 21.

The event is expected to draw a large audience, and Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle has encouraged UPP supporters to attend and “fill the gallery” of the Parliament to celebrate Simon’s return.

Simon’s victory marks his second win against two different Labour Party candidates in nine months, and his supporters have expressed their disappointment that it has taken four weeks for him to take the oath of office in the Lower House.

Simon resigned on June 8 to short-circuit a drawn-out court challenge and will now return to his seat, taking the Opposition Bench back to its full eight-member strength, with the UPP-allied Barbuda People’s Movement seating one member and the Independent Member for St. Peter rounding out the numbers.
