The final flight at Codrington Airport, which landed on Wednesday afternoon, symbolized the end of an era.
The first commercial flight is scheduled to arrive at the new international airport in a few hours, signaling the grand opening of Antigua and Barbuda’s second International Airport, the Burton-Nibbs International Airport.
This marks a significant achievement for the Gaston Browne-led administration and the aviation industry within the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States.
Despite facing opposition due to concerns about environmental impact, the prime minister has remained committed to making the project a reality.
The new airport is set to open soon and is expected to further connect Barbuda to the global community.
The completion of the international airport is a culmination of collaborative efforts and realization of Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s vision
The official ceremony will take place on Sister Isle at 11 a.m., and hundreds of residents are being transported there to witness it.
Top officials, including all members of Parliament, are being ferried to the island by LIAT 20, Calvin Ayre Helicopters, and air and sea transport, which are making multiple trips for this purpose.
