Barbuda Welcomes First International Flight

You can now listen to Antigua News articles!

The newly-opened Barbuda International Airport has welcomed its first international flight, with a Gulfstream G650ER landing mid-morning Friday from Teterboro Airport in New Jersey in the United States.

This is the first time the airport has received a flight from outside of the region, and directly from the United States.

The plane is scheduled to depart mid-afternoon Friday for West Palm Beach in Florida.

This is being welcomed as a major development, some three weeks since the facility was officially commissioned on October 3 upon the completion of its first phase.

Additional phases will see the construction of a new terminal and the extension of the runway.

The airport, which is soon to be renamed the Burton-Nibbs International, is expected to turbo-charge economic activity on the sister isle.

It has already created several jobs for Barbudans, with more being trained to benefit from the island’s bourgeoning aviation sector.

If you’re so against Barbuda having an airport, why not protest against Antigua airport to have it demolished. It’s time to stop being so hateful man!
