With a little under two weeks to go until the by-elections in St. Peters, a call is being made by top cop Atlee Rodney for a peaceful campaign and election season.

Rodney was speaking on state media earlier this week when he made the comments where he also assured the public that the police already have a comprehensive plan in place to ensure everyone’s safety.

“We have already started dialogue with the electoral commission. We have had several meetings with them in preparation. My appeal to the political leaders and the political party supporters is to be mindful of the rules regarding election day. We do not want to have clashes. All we are asking the political leaders is to adhere to the regulations. We do not want any conflict, we do not want any argument and let us have a peaceful by-election,” Rodney said.

The by-election will take place on January 14 as registered voters within the constituency will cast their ballots for either the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party’s (ABLP) Rawdon Turner or the United Progressive Party’s (UPP) George Whener.

Both men were duly nominated on December 31st and will be vying for the vacant seat which was previously held by MP Asot Michael for over 20 years before his untimely death last November.
