UPDATE: AUA students critical after hit and run

The driver of the vehicle that reportedly smashed into two AUA students, leaving them for dead has turned himself in to the police.

The man’s name is being withheld but sources say he is the husband of a prominent legal practitioner.

Head of the Traffic Department Rodney Ellis confirmed to the media earlier that the man turned himself in this afternoon.

He is likely to be charged sometime today. The offense is leaving the scene of an accident with the possibility of more serious charges to follow.

Meanwhile the two students from the American University of Antigua are said to be in critical condition at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center following an accident in the wee hours of the morning

According to sources, the students were hit by a vehicle while leaving Stratos bar and nightclub on Friars hill road when a vehicle struck them and took off.

The students according to reports are on ventilators at the Intensive Care Unit. Their health conditions are not good according to sources

The young man is 21 while his female companion is 19.  Reports are that the young lady’s arm was amputated. She also suffered a broken leg and other injuries. Our reporters could not confirm this.
