Training for Election Day workers off to great start

Hundreds of residents who applied to the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission have started intense training ahead of the January 18th general elections.

The training is being held in 16 constituencies across Antigua, while training for Barbuda will take place at the Holy Trinity Primary School next week.

Elisa Graham, the Public Relations Officer of ABEC said 1,000 people applied to fill the positions of Polling and Information Clerks as well as Presiding Officers.

Each person will be trained in all areas before a selection is made.

“We are happy to announce that the majority who would have applied actually came to the training and there are returners. From all reports, training has been off to a great start and the feedback is that they are happy with what they have seen so far,” Graham said

The training is being facilitated by the returning officers assigned to each of the 17 constituencies.

It is being held from 6 pm to 8 pm for the rest of the week and the officers will be educated on what to expect on voting day, its procedures, rejected ballots, spoilt ballots, and how to deal with the disabled.
