Dominica PM says over $2.4 million to be paid to police in rest days owed

Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit

Dominica owes in excess of $2.4 million owed to police officers for rest days

Finance Minister and Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit made the disclosure during a press conference held recently, saying that he has been holding discussions with the Police Welfare Association recently.

“Police have raised an issue with us in regards to their off days, that is, the off days that they were entitled to. We have been having discussions with the Police Welfare Association, the only delay in that is because there were no proper records outside of the SSU unit in regards to how many rest days officers would have had, and so we come to an agreement with the Police Welfare Association where there we no recorded rest days, especially in the out districts. And so, the amount will be in excess of $2.4 million,” he said.

Commending the PWA for their professionalism, Skerrit said those payments will be made at the end of May 2023.

“This is good news for the police and I want to commend the PWA for their professionalism in their engagement and coming to the resolution in the best interest of their membership,” said.
