No ski masks in Sint Maarten Carnival

26 April 2023 - 22:20

The wearing of ski mass is prohibited in Sint Maarten during the upcoming J’ouvert jump-up and other similar events.

The Police there say it is in keeping with the police’s aim of ensuring the safety of all participants

“While this has become a popular trend among many people, it has been noted that the use of these masks can pose safety risks, such as hindering the identification of individuals and potentially facilitating criminal activity,” the police said

Adding, “To prevent such issues from occurring, the police will be implementing necessary measures to guarantee the safety of all attendees.  We strongly encourage everyone to cooperate with these efforts and abstain from wearing ski masks.”

The prohibition according to police may come as a setback for some people but they insisted that it is all in keeping with safety
