Illegal drugs, totalling $12,154,498 were destroyed during a drugs destruction exercise by the police on Friday June 2.

This large volume of drugs consist of 1,745.83 pounds of Cannabis, 86.3 pounds of Hashish, 729 Cannabis Plants, 1,716 Cannabis Seedlings, 18.1 pounds of Cocaine, and 2 Ecstacy Tablets.

These are substances that were disposed of by the Courts as a result of arrests, as well as seizures made by the police.

The controlled drug cannabis made up the largest batch of the drugs destroyed today. A total 1,675.37 pounds of that portion were illegally imported into the country. That amount also accounts for $10,052,220 of the overall value of drugs destroyed.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Atlee Rodney is commending the hard work that is being done by the Police Narcotics Department and the support coming from the Customs and Excise Department.

Commissioner Rodney is also encouraging the public to appreciate the work of the law enforcement agencies, and see their efforts as a step closer to reducing the influx of illegal substances into the country.

The exercise was supervised by the Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh and other officials from both Courts
