The judiciary has just been rocked by news that the head of the country’s Magistracy has been removed from the bench temporarily.

The Judicial and Legal Services Commission (JLSC)  suspended Joanne Walsh with full pay effective July 20 and until further notice.

Walsh’s suspension was relayed in a missive dated July 19, citing Rule 4 of the JLSC Disciplinary Rules.

Walsh, who has been a Magistrate for over a decade, is facing 10 disciplinary charges filed by the commission just last week.

It is unclear what exactly those charges are or what they are in relation to but Antigua News has been informed that a tribunal of their Court of Appeal Judges will hear the matter in short order.

Antigua News has also been informed that discussions are being had to who will act as Chief of the Magistracy for the time being.

There are presently six Magistrates in the country, one of which is temporary.
