The identity of the man who was reportedly shot and killed by police has been released.

The man who was allegedly shot and killed by police last night has been identified as 44-year-old Mannie James of Bendals Village.

Videos circulating on social medial overnight showed a police officer chasing a man and the sound of gunshots. The police could also be seen putting an injured man in the back of a pickup truck

Reports are that the man was shot during a joint police-military operation conducted by the police and Defense Force Soldiers.

The police were apparently conducting a routine stop and search operation on Lauchland Benjamin Drive when the driver of a Suzuki Vitara sped off after seeing them [the police].

A chase ensued during which one of the occupants of the said vehicle jumped from the vehicle and escaped.

Further reports suggest that James exited the vehicle and was later shot.
