Popular transgender Washington Bramble awaits decision on request to ‘stay’ case

Social media personality Washington Bramble is facing a delay in learning the outcome of her application to halt legal proceedings against her.

Bramble filed for a stay of proceedings last year, challenging the constitutionality of charges alleging that she insulted Chief Health Inspector Sharon Martin online.

The case is being presided over by Justice Ann-Marie Smith, who was set to rule on the application last Friday.

However, the decision has been postponed until March 27th.

Bramble allegedly posted insulting content about Martin on Facebook in February 2022, with the first post appearing after health inspectors visited her home in response to a neighbour’s report that she had thrown excreta onto their property.

Representing herself in the matter, Bramble has expressed a desire for the case to be dismissed. She argues that Section 4 of the Electronic Crimes Act infringes on her constitutional rights, including freedom of speech.
