Caricom leaders have yet to agree to the full free movement of Caricom nationals despite indicating they were on track to do so by March 31.
The Caribbean Media Corporation CMC quoted a highly-placed source as indicating that heads of government agreed to hold more talks on the issue ahead of their next meeting in Grenada.
The source said these discussions are aimed at completing outstanding arrangements to the revised treaty of Chaguaramas.
Currently, Caricom nationals have up to 6 months when they travel within the community and will need a permit to work unless they fall into certain categories of skilled workers.
Skilled Nationals such as media workers, university graduates, musicians, nurses, teachers, and sports people can travel freely across the community with the use of a Caricom Skills Certificate.
Antigua and Barbuda has indicated it wants an exemption from the full free movement regime at this time and wants to continue with the focus on skilled workers to meet specific labor force demands.
The government says this is a pragmatic approach until the economy is in a better position to accede to the full free movement regime.
The Bahamas and Bermuda have also indicated that they would not be part of the free movement of people across the region
