Dominica police have seized a significant amount of drugs worth over EC$37 million.
The police force acted swiftly and efficiently in conducting two separate operations in Castle Bruce along the east coast and Marigot in the northeast.
The Dominica Coast Guard also played an instrumental role in the operations that led to the seizure of 16,798 grams of cannabis and 696,360 grams of cocaine.
The acting Police Commissioner, Davidson Valerie, has issued a stern warning to drug traffickers, stating that the police force will not rest until all traffickers are caught and brought to justice.
He emphasized that the police will intensify their efforts to pursue all drug traffickers and deny them any opportunity to conduct their illegal trade in Dominica.
The police also arrested and charged Anthony Roberts with drug trafficking offenses. Roberts was found in possession of 16,798 grams of cannabis and 696,360 grams of cocaine in Castle Bruce on April 12.
His arrest led to the seizure of drugs worth EC$18.8 million and EC$74,000 in cocaine and marijuana, respectively.
Roberts appeared before the court, and his attorney spoke on his behalf, stating that his client was a farmer by profession and a non-threat to the community.
His attorney also requested his client’s release on bail, with or without conditions. However, the prosecution reminded the court to be mindful of the provisions of the Bail Act.
In the end, the court ruled in favor of Roberts’ release on bail, stating that he had met all bail requirements. The case was adjourned to September 13, later this year.
The successful operations and arrests prove the determination, hard work, and commitment of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force to prevent illegal drug trafficking in Dominica.
