CXC syllabuses suspended

The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) has responded to concerns regarding the suspension of syllabuses for four technical subjects by announcing plans to engage with the Ministers of Education across the region.

CXC recently made headlines with its decision to discontinue certification for Green Engineering, Agricultural Science (double award), Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering due to low enrolment rates.

Following the uproar caused by this announcement, CXC has issued a new statement affirming its commitment to due process. The council intends to convene discussions before making any final decisions regarding the suspension of these subjects, whether temporarily or permanently.

In the statement, CXC stated, “This situation is regrettable and understandably would have caused anxiety among our key stakeholder groups. In order to address the matter, CXC has scheduled a meeting with the Ministers of Education and will provide a full update to the public, through a press release, thereafter. CXC assures our valued stakeholders that the requisite actions will be taken in the best interest of all.”

The outcome of the meeting, scheduled for June 4, will be shared with the public, CXC said.
