Flow commences Phased Shutdown of 2G Mobile Network

You can now listen to Antigua News articles!

Flow, Antigua and Barbuda’s leading telecommunications provider is excited to continue to bring the latest technologies to the island to keep pace with the needs of customers and to ensure our business remains a regional leader in telecommunications advancements.

As part of its ongoing commitment to providing the best possible network experience for customers, Flow will retire the 2G network to reutilize the spectrum to improve the 3G and 4G connectivity offered.

The move will deliver faster data speeds and additional coverage for Flow’s mobile customers, while also paving the way for future innovations in wireless technology.

Flow Antigua and Barbuda’s Acting Country Manager, Noel Browne, responding to this new development says: “The majority of our mobile customers have already upgraded to 3G and 4G compatible devices over the years, however the change may mean that customers need to verify that 3G or 4G access is enabled in their phone settings. Some customers may even need to replace their phone because it is not compatible with 3G or 4G technologies. Understanding that customers will need some time to check settings and possibly change their device, Flow will implement a phased shutdown between now and July 31st.”

Beyond this date, mobile phones and other connected devices such as tracking devices, dongles, IoT’s that use ONLY 2G technology will no longer be able to connect to the Flow mobile network. Impacted customers who fail to take action will not be able to make and receive calls, text messages or utilize mobile data at that time.”

Flow urges customers to assess their device to enjoy uninterrupted access to their services and stay connected. If travel is on the horizon, it is also recommended that your new device is VoLTE (Voice over LTE) capable.

Most mobile roaming partners abroad have also phased out their 2G networks and require VoLTE for roaming connectivity while travelling abroad.

More information on this network enhancement is available online at https://discoverflow.co/shutdown-local-2g-network. Flow also invites customers to visit the page to check if their phone is 3G/4G capable and to learn how to change the settings.

Further assistance for residential customers is also available at the Flow store, where the agents can also assist with the purchase of a new device, settings audit and LTE SIM upgrade. Business customers can contact their account manager for support.

What, FLOW is not ashamed to announced this. They must have just wake up. Antigua and Barbuda is still way behind. We should have been coming out of 4G like other countries. We always behind.

This might be a great opportunity for customers to reassess their current relationship with FLOW whose predatory behavior has continued unchanged since they were Cable & Wireless!
