Opposition Leader Jamal Pringle

Leader of the Opposition Jamal Pringle is inquiring about the Super Yacht Facility announced by the prime minister to be built at Fort James.

Over the weekend, Prime Minister Gaston Browne revealed plans for this development, which he believes will significantly boost the yachting sector in Antigua and Barbuda.

The project, to be situated on the eastern side of the fort, aims to integrate luxury yachting with cultural and historical aspects, taking advantage of the area’s natural beauty.

However, Opposition Leader Pringle expressed skepticism about this proposed development in an interview with the Observer, referring to it as another ambitious but unlikely endeavor.

Pringle highlighted the lack of information regarding job creation, the investors behind the project, the project timeline, and any concessions offered.

He also pointed to previous projects announced by the Browne administration that have never materialized, such as the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines project near Fort James.

Prime Minister Browne emphasized that the Super Yacht Facility aims to provide docking facilities and offer a comprehensive experience for visitors, potentially leading to longer stays and increased spending.

He also emphasized the entrepreneurial opportunities it could bring residents, allowing them to establish shops and provide services to tourists, aiming to boost the local economy.

Browne assured that the project is focused on job creation, economic growth, and tourism enhancement, with the intention to restore Fort James to its former glory and offer a unique attraction for tourists interested in history and culture.

Fort James, originally constructed during the colonial era by the British, is among several forts built in Antigua and Barbuda in the 18th century.

  1. You can provide all the “clarity” requested by a blundering fool and he’ll never understand! Just let him know if any of his tents, tables, chairs and dog-collection trucks will be required and he’ll just slither back to the hole from whence he emerged. Please, just ked the paddy wagon roll on!
