In a shocking turn of events, four executive members of the United Progressive Party (UPP) have tendered their resignations, citing issues within the party related to the treatment of youth members.
The resignations include the former chair, who served as an advisor to the Youth arm, the current chair, the vice chair, and the secretary.
According to reports, Guishone Powell resigned as Advisor to the youth arm, and Lexianne Powell resigned as Chair. Chelsea Agard as Vice Chair and Sherry-Ann Cornelious as the secretary
The youth members who spoke out in their resignation letters expressed their feelings of being unwanted, having no room for growth, and feeling disrespected within the party.
One member highlighted the hurtful experience of the chair abstaining from voting for her to become a party member, despite her sacrifices for the UPP.
Additionally, the youth members revealed they were removed from all UPP chat groups for congratulating Hon. Anthony Smith on his appointment, emphasizing his support as the backbone of the Youth arm. They stressed that expressing support for someone outside of the party should not result in such severe actions being taken against them.
One member of the youth arm eloquently stated, “Hate has no place in our politics. If me and my brother support two different political parties, does that mean we should be enemies?” This sentiment reflects a call for unity and respect across party lines.
Despite their grievances, the youth members expressed gratitude for their time in the UPP and wished the party well in their future endeavors.
The resignations of these key executive members and the concerns raised by the youth signal a period of turmoil and introspection within the United Progressive Party.
The root cause within the UPP needs to be plucked up and burned out. The youth are the future not the old wash up beat up old bags. The older ones can be advisories if needed. Let the youth take charge because it’s their future. We the older ones had messed up our future. There is a control Jezebel spirit among the UPP and need to be rooted out fast to save the UPP Political Party. These young people who had resigned should not have, they should stand up to the Jezebel spirit. You should not have let Jezebel has her/his way. Young people stand up for what is right!
