Antigua Masonry Products has finally resolved the labor dispute that halted operations at the construction materials company.
The strike, fueled by employee demands for retirement benefits and salary increases, marked the second industrial action in two months.
After facing challenges in negotiations with company management, dozens of workers resorted to strike.
This week’s strike briefly came to a halt on Tuesday when the union received court papers indicating that the company had referred the matter to the industrial court.
This legal action legally compelled the employees to cease striking and return to work, as instructed by the Free Trade Union championing their cause.
However, the company reversed course by promptly withdrawing the case as soon as a hearing date was set.
Subsequently, the Free Trade Union escalated the matter by filing the case with the industrial court.
As a result, the employees have resumed their duties while awaiting a hearing date.
The union is advocating for a retroactive salary increase covering the past three years for the 65 represented workers.
Additionally, it is pushing for a pay raise over the next three years. Despite the ongoing negotiations, both parties have yet to reach an agreement.
