UPP Public Relations Officer Resigns, Citing Party Viability Concerns

Damani Tabor, the Public Relations Officer for the United Progressive Party (UPP), has tendered his immediate resignation from the party.

Tabor communicated his decision through a formal letter addressed to the UPP’s General Secretary on September 23, 2024.

In his resignation letter, Tabor stated, “I write to inform you that I’m tendering my resignation from the United Progressive Party with immediate effect.” He explained that his decision was not made lightly, but after careful consideration of various factors affecting the party’s current state.

Tabor cited concerns about the UPP’s future, writing, “I have come to this decision, unencumbered by the sunk cost fallacy, after weighing a multiplicity of factors and developments which critically impact the cohesion, performance and political viability of the Party.”

Despite his departure, Tabor expressed gratitude for his time with the UPP, noting, “I reflect with gratitude on the opportunity to have served in several capacities within the branch, executive and parliamentary domains.”

He specifically mentioned his roles in the 2023 Campaign Management Committee and the St. Mary’s South By-Election Strategy Team as “particularly instructive and skill-refining.”

The resignation letter also included details about the transfer of intellectual property, including instructions for the party to take over the management of the Real News website.

Tabor concluded his letter on a note of hope for Antigua and Barbuda’s political landscape: “Maintaining a healthy democracy is critical to nation-building. I am therefore hopeful, like most Antiguan & Barbudan citizens and residents, that a viable Opposition continues to be a part of our political landscape.”

This resignation marks the latest in a series of departures from the UPP, raising questions about the party’s future and its role in the country’s opposition.
