The Prime Minister who is leading the country’s delegation to the general assembly at the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York officially presented the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS (ABAS) to heads of state and government

The pocket-size booklet of the ABAS was unveiled on Monday during a breakfast leadership meeting of the Alliance of Small Island states (AOSIS).

This launch follows the adoption of the ABAS framework at the fourth international conference on SIDS, held in Antigua and Barbuda in May.

The booklet, designed for ease of access, includes important images from the sids4 conference and outlines the new 10-year framework for achieving resilient prosperity and sustainable development in SIDS.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne, encouraged leaders to put their full support behind the agenda.

He highlighted the importance of familiarizing themselves with the ABAS and called for immediate action to implement its outlined strategies.

The ABAS framework includes bespoke solutions for the unique challenges faced by SIDS, including initiatives championed by Antigua’s climate advocates such as the SIDS Centre of Excellence and the SIDS debt sustainability support services.

Prime Minister Browne urged swift action to avoid delays in implementing the framework, warning that failure to act would hinder progress in improving lives and securing the future of SIDS.
