Achazia James Laid to Rest

The color pink symbolizes love, tenderness, and compassion, and was chosen to honor 15-year-old Achazia James, who passed away prematurely.

Her memorial service took place on Monday afternoon at the Beacon Light Church of the Nazarene. Many of those in attendance were teenagers between the ages of 15 and 17.

Achazia, a resident of Fort Road, tragically lost her life at the young age of 15. She was a student at the Princess Margaret School. Her body was discovered on Runaway Beach in the early hours of Sunday, August 18th.

“She deserves to be honored, remembered for the bright light that she was and for all the joy she brought into our lives. The bond we shared was something special…” her mother told the church.

She added, “She wasn’t just the light of the family but her friends; she had a way of lightening up the room whenever she walked in.”
Prime Minister Gaston Browne, along with Foreign Affairs Minister E.P. Chet Greene and other government ministers, attended the funeral service.

Additionally, Director of Education Clare Browne, principals, and teachers from different schools, as well as students from PMS and Grays Christian Academy, among others, also attended the service.
Despite the police questioning numerous individuals, including her close friends, no one has been charged for James’s murder.
