The United Progressive Party (UPP) has decided to boycott the annual V.C. Bird celebrations, a significant event traditionally organized by the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) government.
This celebration typically includes heartfelt tributes to Sir Vere Cornwall Bird, the nation’s first Prime Minister.
In lieu of participating in the official festivities, the UPP opted to conduct a private wreath-laying ceremony paying their respects to those who sacrifced their services to Antigua and Barbuda.
In a post shared on its Facebook page, UPP Leader Jamal Pringle was depicted alongside fellow party members
“Today we, the United Progressive Party, celebrated the distinguished contributions of our nation’s national heroes with citations, presentations and a wreath laying ceremony at the resting place and monuments to the exemplary citizens whose sacrifices, service and contributions to nation building are immortalized on the pages of this nation’s history,” they said in a statement.
wow. this is almsot like a form of disrespect towards the late Sir Vere Cornwall Bird, KNH. Yes you want to celebrate all heros of the nation but this specific day was dated October 26th. I hope the ABLP tap into this. the UPP should never thought of doing this. this is out of the whole days celebration.
Politics is in everything if there’s a special day for vc so be it but what about the other heroes make a special day of celebrations for them too.. Anything politics touches gets spoiled
WHO CARES, the guy is already dead you think he knows you clowns are arguing about who shows up to a stupid wreath laying?
You need some deliverance that’s what. Respect and tribute is what it is! So yes the nation cares. This man is by far more important than any UPP or ABLP members of today. His day should very much be respected
I really don’t want to laugh. People are so petty. Antigua could be so much more productive if we all gain some common sense
