The Enforcement Directorate has successfully frozen over $1.8 million in assets belonging to Mehul Choksi, a fugitive from Antigua and Barbuda.

This extensive asset freeze includes a diverse range of possessions—ranging from vast parcels of land and residential properties to commercial real estate.

In addition, numerous bank accounts and overseas assets across 16 different foreign jurisdictions have been attached.

These assets are spread across several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as well as Japan, France, Spain, Switzerland, Australia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, China, Hong Kong, Mauritius, Bermuda, the Comoros Islands, and the British Crown dependency of the Isle of Man.

Moreover, Nirav Modi also finds himself entangled in this complex legal matter. Currently, he is incarcerated in a UK prison while facing proceedings for extradition.

Similarly, Mehul Choksi is engaged in a legal battle against an extradition request from India, defending himself against serious charges.

Choksi, along with his nephew Nirav Modi, is being pursued by Indian authorities in connection with the Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam, in which they are accused of defrauding the bank of over 2 billion dollars

An arrest warrant has been issued for Choksi, and he faces charges in India for criminal conspiracy, breach of trust, cheating, dishonesty related to the delivery of property, corruption, and money laundering.

Choksi received Antiguan and Barbudan citizenship by investment.
