Potters Man Faces Prison Time If He Can’t Pay $10,000 for Home Break-In

A Potters resident now has three months to come up with $10,000 or face time behind bars after admitting to burglarizing a home and stealing thousands of dollars worth of Apple devices and jewellery.

Timothy Anthony learned his fate Tuesday when Justice Tunde Bakre handed down the financial penalty in High Court, giving him until September to compensate his victim $8,000 and pay an additional $2,000 fine to the state. The consequences for non-payment isincarceration.

The case stems from a November 16, 2022 break-in that unfolded while the homeowner was away for the day. The victim had left her housekeeper at the residence around 8:09 AM, only to return that evening between 4:45 and 5:00 pm to discover the violation of her home.

Security camera footage proved crucial in identifying Anthony, capturing him in distinctive clothing—a black hoodie with white stripes, red, black and white hat, short jeans, and slippers with black and white writing—as he moved through the property before making off with valuable items.

The stolen goods read like an inventory from an Apple store: an iPad Pro 12.9, AirPods Pro with case, iPad Pro Pencil, iPad Pro Folio case, wireless iPhone charger, and various cables, alongside four silver necklaces, a leather bracelet, a weed whacker, and a yellow diesel container.

Anthony, who pleaded guilty to larceny on May 15, made an appeal for mercy during sentencing, telling Justice Bakre he has turned his life around and now works as a farmer. Attorney Wendel Robinson provided mitigation assistance despite not being retained by Anthony, while prosecutor Daniel Lattery handled the case for the Crown.
