Denroy Palmer, the individual allegedly responsible for striking national cyclist Jomari King made his initial court appearance on Wednesday.
The proceedings were adjourned until the next scheduled date of September 8th. Palmer faces charges related to the incident, specifically an offence described as “coming into contact.”

The accident occurred on July 2nd in Collins when King was reportedly hit by a vehicle.

Eyewitnesses indicate that the driver fled the scene immediately following the collision.

Fortunately, King emerged from the incident without sustaining serious injuries.

The recent history of cyclist accidents is sobering; in May 2022, renowned national cyclist Andre Simon was also struck while riding early in the morning.

Despite receiving medical attention abroad, Simon eventually succumbed to his injuries over a year later, highlighting the potential dangers faced by cyclists on the road.

The cycling community continues to advocate for stricter measures to protect their members from similar incidents.
