Minister Melford Nicholas questioned by reporters

Several major developments are on the cards for the Fort Road Community.

This is according to MP for the area, Melford Nicholas who on state media recently revealed some of the plans he has for the St. Johns City East constituency.

I intend to rebuild that whole Sports Street area and I’ve already indicated that I want to rename it the John Eugene St. Luce Plaza in recognition of his own work in the community and on whose shoulder, I stand, and I intend to bring a commerce park in that area. But more on that will happen in the short weeks.

I’ve already seen the architect’s rendition, and I’m pretty happy about it but we’re going to be able to do that. We’re going to be rebuilding the Pan House, and we’re going to be refixing the basketball court and having a look again at the perimeter fencing for the sports field,” Nicholas explained.

Also on the list, is a hurricane and recreational center.

“We’re having a conversation with the Department of the Environment about building our own hurricane shelter within the community that will act as well as a home recreational center for our senior citizens. So, lots of work is planned for this term and I can’t say that I will complete all of it this year but God willing, we will start most of it.

“If we continue to persevere, I’m sure that before there is a next call for renewal of my contract, I will have those things to talk about,” Nicholas added.

He also also gave an update on some infrastructure that was already in the works.

“There is a civilian pedestrian bridge that is nearing completion now. I’m pretty proud of that piece of work because it does not follow the bridges of the past where we deal with motor vehicle. This really spans a particular pathway that many people use in the community. In the past, they had to go down into the depths of the trench to be able to get past. So, we built something modern and I think when it’s completed, the folks are going to be pretty proud of it,” Nicholas said.

    • Plenty more of what? Empty promises? What has this guy achieved in the community from his last set of promises last election? Antiguans don’t like themselves, they don’t care about the future of their children. All you all see is red and blue while standing by listening to these idiots. SMFH!

  1. A hurricane shelter and senior rec center? That’s smart planning. Hope environmental consultation leads to a resilient, multi-use space
