Dr. David Francis, the nation’s most recent recipient of the Chevening Scholarship

Dr. David Francis has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Chevening Scholarship to pursue graduate studies in the United Kingdom.

Francis currently serves as a House Officer in the Subspecialties Department of Internal Medicine at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where he specializes in Nephrology, Neurology, and Oncology. He also chairs the Infectious Disease Committee of the hospital’s dialysis unit, where he has developed expertise in infection prevention and control protocols for high-risk patients.

The scholarship recipient brings impressive academic credentials to his new role as a Chevening Scholar. Francis earned his medical degree from the Latin American School of Medicine and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health from the University of South Wales. He further enhanced his knowledge in population health by completing a certificate program in Introduction to Epidemiology at Washington University.

Francis will use his scholarship to pursue a Master of Science degree in Applied Infectious Disease Epidemiology at University College London. The program aligns with his professional goals of strengthening public health infrastructure through improved outbreak detection and response systems, developing evidence-based health policies, and building capacity to address emerging antimicrobial resistance challenges.

The Chevening Scholarship program, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, provides full funding for outstanding professionals and academics to complete one-year master’s degrees at leading British universities. Recipients are selected based on their leadership potential and commitment to creating positive change in their home countries.

Francis joins an elite group of global leaders who have benefited from this competitive scholarship program, which aims to build lasting relationships between the UK and future influencers worldwide.
