Constable Shamar Smith, performing under the stage name Mighty Birdie, has emerged as the 2025 Police Calypso Monarch, claiming victory in a tightly contested showdown at the Antigua Recreation Grounds.
The event, staged as part of the 57th annual Police Week celebrations, brought together 12 calypsonians in a contest that highlighted both creativity and resilience within the Force.
Smith secured the top spot ahead of Shania “Lady Ace” Samuel, who placed second, and Clint “Panampanana” Spencer, who finished third.
Smith’s win marked the culmination of a steady rise in the competition. After failing to place in his first appearance in 2022, he returned stronger in 2023 with a runner-up finish. Three years later, he has now captured the crown, completing a journey defined by perseverance and growth in the art form.
The winning performance drew on themes familiar to everyday life in Antigua and Barbuda. Inspired by personal stories within the police community, Smith shaped his calypso into a commentary that resonated with both the judges and the audience. The piece underscored the enduring tradition of calypso as a vehicle for social reflection, humor, and cultural identity.
The Police Calypso Monarch contest forms part of a wider calendar of activities under the theme “Rising to New Challenges, Serving with Greater Dedication.” Beyond entertainment, the event fosters camaraderie within the Force, strengthens connections with the public, and showcases the cultural contributions of law enforcement officers.
