Police Investigating Series of Break-Ins Across Antigua

Police are probing a string of house and building break-ins that occurred this week in different parts of the island, resulting in the theft of electronics, appliances, and personal items.

Yeptons Incidents

Two separate homes in Yeptons were targeted during the early morning and daytime hours. In the first case, intruders forced open an eastern door by breaking a padlocked latch, gaining access to living and bedroom areas.

Several fishing rods and jewelry were reported stolen. Investigators also noted a western window that was closed but not secured at the time of the incident.

In the second case, thieves pried open a northern upstairs window and removed an air conditioning unit from a living room. They then entered a storeroom through an unsecured western window and stole a leaf blower. Jewelry was also reported missing. Searches for the stolen property in both matters proved unsuccessful.

Clarkes Hill Incident

In Clarkes Hill, a residence was broken into between 6:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. The intruders gained access through a western window that had been closed but left unlocked. The entire house was ransacked, and several items were taken, including a vault containing cash and ammunition. No trace of the missing property was found during searches in the area.

North Street Business Break-In

Meanwhile, police responded to an attempted burglary at a business establishment on North Street in the early morning hours. Officers reported arriving to find an individual dropping stolen packages and fleeing the scene.

The suspect was apprehended shortly afterward, and packages recovered nearby were later identified as belonging to the establishment. Investigators noted that entry had been gained by breaking the lock on a western door.

Forensic teams processed the various crime scenes, and investigations remain ongoing as police work to determine the full value of the stolen property and identify additional suspects.

  1. Windows closed but not secured….a windows closed but not secured… windows closed but left unlocked… What further tips do homeowners need. Your carelessness not only results in great loss to you personally but also puts unnecessary strain on our security personnel with residents, perhaps understandably, growing increasingly fearful of these nocturnal beasts that we “invite” into our homes. Maybe if the authorities begin to impose a hefty fee on careless and indulgent homeowners we might begin to see a more serious collective approach to property security.
