On World Tourism Day, the lifeblood of Antigua and Barbuda’s economy was on full display as more than 1,000 job seekers crowded into the Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association’s (ABHTA) Hospitality Job Fair.
With the tourism sector accounting for the majority of local employment, the large turnout underscored both the industry’s importance and the urgent need for stable, well-paying jobs in the country.

“This event proves how central tourism is to our people and our economy,” said ABHTA Chairman Craig Marshall. “The turnout and conversations we had throughout the day highlight the immense potential for our people to step confidently into key roles. This industry offers not just jobs, but meaningful career paths.”
Employers at the fair described candidates as professional and prepared, with many young school leavers making a strong impression.
“The candidates showed great potential they are clearly ready to contribute to the sector,” said Kris Krisendat, Senior Duty Manager at Cocos Hotel.
Trade Winds Hotel’s Rooms Division Coordinator, Kerissa Henry, added that the younger generation stood out for their confidence. “The males, in particular, were well-presented, confident, and making a strong impression,” she said.

The ABHTA also credited its partners, including Community First Cooperative Credit Union, for supporting the initiative, which it said is vital to matching talent with opportunity at a time when the nation is looking to strengthen its tourism product ahead of a busy winter season.
For job seekers like those who filled the fair, the event was more than just interviews — it was a chance to secure a place in Antigua and Barbuda’s most important industry, one that continues to shape the country’s future.

That’s very good news. And then people saying it haven’t got jobs in the country
Good to see opportunities for the youth, but the industry must also create room for long-term careers, not just seasonal positions.
Atleast people are looking for jobs, not everyone out here doing crimes
Tourism can’t just be the backbone of the economy, it has to be the pathway to stability and growth for our people.
Great to see so many young people eager to join the tourism industry it shows how vital this sector remains to our economy.
