Parents encouraged to sign on for Positive Parenting Workshop

With the current social climate in Antigua and Barbuda, one clinical professional is taking charge and pushing towards equipping parents with the right tools for positive parenting.

Dr Cleon Athill will be hosting a Positive Parenting Series via Zoom for eight weeks.

Positive parenting is a nurturing approach that focuses on a child’s strengths, fostering a supportive environment that encourages healthy development and positive behavior.

It is a parenting style that emphasizes building a strong, respectful relationship between parents and children. It encourages parents to focus on their child’s strengths rather than solely correcting their weaknesses.

She spoke on the importance of hosting a series like this one.

Oh, I mean, it is always important to reach out to support parents. Parents need help. Like I normally say, children are not born with manuals and in any support that we can get to help us raise our children, it’s good. It doesn’t matter if you think you’re a successful parent. All parents need support and that is what this session I intended to do, “Athill explained.

Initially, Athill did her outreach at schools but the turn out wasn’t satisfactory. She then decided to convert to a virtual workshop.

Despite this change, Athill revealed the interest still is not present.

She is encouraging parents to jump on board.

Interested parents can contact Dr. Athill at 464-5015 or via her Facebook page at Cleon Athill.

  1. This is exactly what’s needed given the current climate in Antigua. Parents are either too embarrassed to admit they need help, or do not know how to utilize the technology or perhaps they don’t care. Keep pushing though but keep in mind that one can only lead horses to water, but you can’t make them drink.
