Tropical Storm Watch

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service has announced that a tropical storm watch will be issued for Barbuda at 5 p.m. today, with a similar alert under consideration for Antigua at 8 p.m. as the region keeps a close eye on Tropical Storm Jerry.

According to forecasters, a tropical storm watch is declared when storm-force winds between 34 and 63 knots are possible within 48 hours in a specified area due to a developing tropical, subtropical, or post-tropical system.

The MET Office is advising residents, particularly in Barbuda, to begin early preparations for potential storm conditions once the watch takes effect.

These include securing loose outdoor objects, checking emergency supplies, and staying tuned for further advisories.

Officials noted that conditions in the northeast Caribbean are being closely monitored and that updates will be provided as new data becomes available this evening.

Residents are urged not to take the watch lightly and to use the window of opportunity to make necessary preparations ahead of any possible impact.
