Prime Minister Gaston Browne has praised the government of Panama for its principled position on maintaining the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, amid growing global military tensions.

Speaking during the credential ceremony for Ambassador Ana Irene Delgado, Browne said Panama’s foreign policy reflects a commitment to regional stability and sovereignty — values shared by Antigua and Barbuda.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed his government’s belief that small states must advocate for diplomacy, peace, and non-aggression within the hemisphere, noting that “Panama’s voice on these matters remains consistent and courageous.”

This alignment adds a new dimension to the deepening bilateral relationship between the two nations, now poised for expanded cooperation in aviation, logistics, and trade.

  2. This is the kind of regional unity the Caribbean needs small nations supporting each other in a world dominated by big powers.

  3. Caribbean observers and even some of his regional heads will welcome Browne’s recognition of Panama’s commitment to regional stability. I am very versed on these matters and I will say that the “Zone of Peace” principle, long championed by CARICOM and Latin America’s diplomatic circles, emphasizes neutrality, respect for sovereignty, and peaceful dispute resolution. In an era of escalating global conflicts, reaffirming that vision places both Antigua & Barbuda and Panama on the side of diplomacy rather than militarization.

[Analysts note that Panama’s foreign policy, shaped by its control of the Panama Canal, often balances great-power interests while defending regional autonomy. Antigua and Barbuda’s alignment with that outlook enhances its credibility as a voice for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) advocating peace and non-aggression. This could strengthen the region’s moral standing at the UN and within the Organization of American States.

  8. Glad to see PM Browne talking sense on this one. Too much war and confusion in the world already. Antigua small, but we can still stand for peace and unity. Panama been a friend, so this good vibes

  9. I like that the PM mention non-aggression. The world getting too hot not just climate-wise, but in conflict. Small islands have to be the ones calling for calm
