A special fund will be established for government building repairs; Director General of Communications in the Prime Minister’s Office Maurice Merchant made the revelation during the Post-Cabinet Press Briefing on Thursday.
“As I indicated, there are over 480 government buildings or buildings occupied by government employees. From time to time, they do run into disrepair. Cabinet has agreed that there will be the establishment of this fund to look at the whole reconstruction and repairs of government buildings,” Merchant said.
This move aligns with the national beautification campaign, which, in relation to that, features an initiative where government buildings within the city will be repainted.
This will also be the case for those outside that particular jurisdiction, but those in St. John’s will receive priority.
“It is anticipated that the private sector will follow suit in repainting their buildings. So, government will be taking a step forward and repainting, focusing first and foremost on St. John’s – government owned buildings in St. John’s. So, all of these buildings will be receiving a facelift in a matter of weeks, starting in a matter of weeks with this injection of a sizable sum of money for the repainting and the beautification of Antigua and Barbuda”, Merchant added.

Government needs to build that headquarters to eliminate some of debt. That was it will be better to monitor the structure and maintenance of the building
Some of these buildings need to just demolish and rebuild
As long as government buildings stop looking like haunted houses, I’m in full support.
Good initiative. Well-maintained buildings reflect efficiency and respect for public resources
This fund better come with transparency. If the paint money start to disappear like the water trucks, we will have problem
I hope the private sector follow, because some of them business places look like abandoned warehouses
