No LPG Shortage, WIOC Tells Public Amid Increased Cylinder Demand

13 March 2026 - 08:15

Residents across Antigua and Barbuda are being urged not to panic buy liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders after a sudden spike in purchases prompted concerns about a possible shortage.

The West Indies Oil Company Limited (WIOC) said it has observed a significant increase in LPG cylinder purchases across the island in recent days, driven by what the company described as unnecessary public concern and speculation.

However, WIOC is assuring customers that there is no shortage of LPG and that the company has sufficient supplies and cylinder availability to meet normal consumer demand.

In a statement, the company emphasized that there is no need for members of the public to stockpile LPG at this time, noting that supply and distribution systems remain stable.

WIOC also sought to address circulating rumours about possible price increases. The company clarified that no discussions have taken place with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda regarding any increase in the price of LPG cylinders.

Officials say the company continues to monitor the situation closely and has taken steps to ensure the continued reliable supply and distribution of LPG throughout Antigua and Barbuda.

Customers who experience any localized supply or distribution issues are encouraged to contact WIOC’s Call Centre at 462-WIOC (9462) or email [email protected] for assistance.
